DragonSong gave a wonderful performance Friday night, September 18, 2009, at the Mountain Mysteries Mabon Festival located just outside of Stanardsville, VA at the Heavenly Acres Campground. The real show stoppers were the ethereal vocals and violin by Bridget Bystry, especially on the Loreena McKennitt songs the band performed. The sound was so rich and lush; Loreena McKennit would have been proud or maybe even a bit envious.

The concert was a wonderful tour of musical styles from around the world plus some of the band’s original tunes. It was a stand out performance and well enjoyed by the crowd. The inspired belly dancing of Saahira Nashita from the troupe Min el-Jbal el-Zarr'a (MZB) accompanied the band on most numbers and provided a wonderful extra added gift to the rapt audience.

DragonSong self-describes their band on their My Space web page as a “collaborative World Music ensemble. Their organic nature and unique instrumentation bridges the gap between tradition and innovation. Guitar, bass, violin, exotic percussion, and vocal harmonies create the rich, vibrant, musical tapestry that is DragonSong. Their kaleidoscopes of compositions are inspired by innovative songwriting, cerebral lyrics and a shared love for stretching musical boundaries. Moments of tranquility alternate with episodes of dynamic and aggressive musicianship evolve (into a sound) as sure and satisfying as the ocean tide.”

The members of Dragonsong are: Jeremy Zacherl (Guitar, Vocals, Percussion, Didge); Bridget Bystry (Violin, Percussion, Vocals); Simon Wojcik (Bass); Jonathan Fell (Mandolin, Percussion); Wayne Byers (Doumbek, Vocals); Chip Staples (Djembe); Karolyn McNeely (Doumbek, Percussion, Vocals); Gene Schwartzman (Doumbek); and, Emyrs Morgan (Doumbek).
