Find out more about Julie: Julie Brown became engaged with running after unsuccessful back surgery ten years ago. The sport jump-started her recovery as she lost 40 pounds and adopted a healthier lifestyle. Over the years, Julie has completed over 100 races of various distances. Since becoming a mom 4 years ago she has found a way to balance two of her biggest passions—motherhood and running. |
I have found in my conversations with non-running moms that their number one reason for not running, next to injury, is that they were forced to do it in school and were not so good at it.This explanation makes perfect sense. Running can feel unnatural if done by someone else's time and distance standards and in circles around a gym or field without regular practice. How can you change this perception of running? Simply squash all of those negative experiences with running and start over, under your own conditions. Chances are you will find running much more enjoyable when you are in charge. In the meantime, check out the link to Coolrunning.com below for more reasons to start your own program.
Veteran running mom challenge: Reach out to a non-running mom you know to share how running has impacted you. Encourage her to start her own running program.
Until next time, I wish you all--beginning and veteran Running Moms--happy and healthy running!
