The Little Black Dress Club – little black dress not actually required – is a club for the modern woman. It’s a dinner club, a book club, a group of travel companions, or even a weekend movie partner. Just as an LBD is anything a woman needs it to be (and suitable for every occasion), so too are the friends fostered from the intimacy of belonging to a group and from sharing good times and fun experiences.
“We started the club in August of 2006,” remembers Christine Zellers, co-Founder of LBD. “I had broken up with a longterm boyfriend and really wanted to find a good group of girlfriends. At dinner with a friend we brainstormed ways to start a monthly dinner club to meet new people and try different restaurants and bars all over the city.”
And now the Little Black Dress Club has affiliates in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and DC, with more on the way. Women in Atlanta, Charleston (WV) and Nashville have recognized the value of connecting women who share similar experiences and interests.
To take full advantage of finding friends and sharing an occasion, members of the club host and attend events for small or large groups. “If there's a play or a movie a woman wants to see, she can post it on the website and find other women to go with her,” says Zellers. Events range from large charity galas to small happy hour meet-ups. And a review of the diverse membership of DC’s LBD club shows that it is full of fabulous women to befriend. “They are adventurous, intelligent, self actualized and very friendly. We try to foster an environment where women can come alone and not feel isolated.”
Who knew finding friends can be as easy as throwing on a little black dress?!
