This is the coldest morning since April 13th, when the low temperature dropped to 29F in Balimore. At 6am, BWI hit 28F, the record was 22F in 1962. The Freeze Warning signifies temperatures at or below 32F, even for places near the water in in these counties: Harford, Baltimore (and City), Anne Arundel, south through St. Mary's, and the ower Eastern. This finally ends the growing season, can harm sensitive plants, and burst open connected hoses. It will also accelerate the turning of the leaves that are still hanging on late in the season.
The delay of the cold air in these areas near the water was explained in my recent article: Weather 101: When is the average first frost or freeze in Maryland?
More on the warmer weekend will be posted in the slide show below shortly. You will notice the warm up through Tuesday, but also Tropical Storm Ida showing up on the map in the Gulf of Mexico. Follow that 'Ida' in my Atlantic Hurricane Examiner page.
