Tropical Depression Ida cam onshore Tuesday morning, and is expected to stall in the southeast most of this week. While the expectation for rain is likely to stay to our south, a guarantee of strong winds will develop, with extremely high surf along Ocean City and the Delmarva coast. Waves over 20 feet are forecast. This is due to the combination of strong Canadian High Pressure building into New England conflicting with the remains of Ida off of the Southeast coast. The strong pressure gradient that will develop, will increase easterly, onshore winds over 50 mph by Thursday and Friday.
Plan for major beach erosion along most of the Mid Atlantic Coast. A Small craft Advisory is in effect for the Delmarva beeches, while a Gale City and Delaware Thursday and Friday. See the weather maps and wave maps in the slide show below. Late this morning, I will take a deeper look at the computer models and the chance for some of the rain to reach Maryland. It may stay just south, but too early to say where this pattern will stall for sure.
