So I'm drinking my morning coffee and reading my morning paper when I came across a Sam's Club Holiday Gift Giving Guide catalog insert. Great job, by the way, of the design and content. Until I got to page 2. I preface this by saying, this is not a joke. Honest. No really. I read it. You can too.
Disney, the power-brand, the marketing machine, the staple of magical entertainment for kids and adults alike, has now partnered with Sam's Club to offer a once-in-a-lifetime Fairy Tale Wedding. Now, there is a sense of urgency, this package is available for purchase on November 18th to only one lucky person, so mark your calendars...
For only $198,000, let's round it up to a cool $200 grand, 2 people can get married inside Magic Kingdom Park. Now, you're limited to 50 guests, I mean, it's only $200,000 for crying out loud. The following is an actual list of what's included from their ad:
• Once-in-a-lifetime wedding ceremony inside Magic Kingdom® Park during park hours with Cinderella Castle as your backdrop
• Custom-designed Ceremony, Dinner Reception and Dessert Party for 50 Guests to include floral, décor, entertainment and menus
• Private planning session with celebrity wedding planner David Tutera.
• "Kiss Good Night" dessert party with decadent sweets and spectacular custom-designed wedding cake
• Magic Kingdom Portrait Session, plus photographer and videographer for the wedding day
• Bridal couple enjoys four (4) nights deluxe accommodations at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Is there anything more pretentious? Who the hell is going to spend that kind of cake on a wedding at Disney? And note that the 50 guest limit is critical, since your wedding IS during normal park hours. For that kind of money, shouldn't you get the park to yourself? This is by far the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. But there's more: the package must be paid by wire transfer and is non-refundable. There ARE blockout dates and travel is NOT INCLUDED!! Come on, Disney, is this really what it's come to? Why not have a $20,000 wedding, which I'm pretty sure is still a good chunk of change, and take the extra $180,000 and buy, oh, I don't know, A HOUSE!!
So hurry up those of you out there looking for a special way to tie the knot. Remember, you need to be a Sam's Club member, I mean, Disney can't offer this special pricing to just anyone. The next time you're in Sam's to get that 120 pack of Charmin, why not grab yourself a wedding package, too?
