The best way to ensure that your holiday season is filled with more treats and less tricks is simple when it comes to decking your halls - Smart Organization. Implementing a practical and simple storage system is a must if you are interested in shaving off some of the stress that invariably accompanies the holidays.  As I mentioned in my "How To Organize" article, the most efficient way to organize your possessions is by storing like items together. With holiday decor, this rule is more important than ever.

Once your decorations are grouped by holiday, you are ready to select the most appropriate container for storage. One great way to do this is by color-coding the containers according to the colors most often associated with the holiday in question.  For instance, for the Christmas Holidays I would suggest red and/or green storage, and for Halloween I would suggest orange and/or black.  I would also recommend labeling the colored bins according to the category of item contained (costumes, indoor decor, outdoor decor, candles, and wreaths are some good candidates for Halloween.) Here are my fabulous finds for Halloween storage-made-easy.

1. Container Store - I chose this streamlined bin as my top pick for its simplicity; it's large, easily identifiable, affordable, and reliable. The only con is that it is not available for shipping, so you must live near this organizer's paradise to buy one. Just enter your zip and the site will find the nearest store. The Container Store now offers an extraordinary new time-saving service - "click & pick up". The customer clicks what they want to purchase online and it's ready when they arrive for pick-up. Now that's customer service.

2. Grandin Road  - I love these bags for their size and flexibility. Although they are not orange, they do have a distinct embroidered spiderweb design on the corner making them easy to identify among your other storage. It's perfect for those odd shaped goblins lining your front lawn to scare away those treaters!

3. SpaceSavers.com - This is a great online and retail shopping source for affordable and basic storage. Their Halloween bins are also offered in sets of 4 or 8 so that you can save when buying bulk. Perhaps one for each category of decoration? Finding your Halloween garb will never be a chore again!

Storage Tip: Be sure to store all decor in a dry, cool area to avoid damage. This is especially important for candles, which are prone to melting, and costumes, which need to be kept fresh.
