This is my final article on the sexy men and women of science fiction. I have established the most beautiful women and the hunkiest men. Now it is time to identify those sci-fi couples who make our blood boil right along with theirs. The list starts at number 20 and ends with my number one pick.

Endearing and eternal might be the best words to describe the senior love affair between Battlestar Galactica’s first lady, Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and the leader of her military fleet, Admiral William Adama (Edward James Olmos). Though the couple didn’t like each other at first, they found mutual respect, which slowly blossomed into love. Thank goodness fans were not denied the chance to see how much they meant to one another. That just goes to show that we oldsters know how to love too.

There was something innately charming about the on again/off again romance of Star Trek: The Next Generation’s William T. Ryker (Jonathan Frakes) and Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis). Whether they were simply working together as colleagues, sharing confidences as friends or dating the couple had a connection that clearly went further than their love for Starfleet.

An oldie but a goodie, no sexy sci-fi couple list would be complete without mentioning one of the original fab duos - - the bionic man (Lee Major) and woman (Lindsay Wagner). The couple was hot long before an accident nearly stole the Colonel Steve Austin’s ladylove from him. However, once Jaime Sommers could match him stride for stride, things heated up at bionic speed.

Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the original film, even I couldn’t deny the red-hot chemistry between leading lady Kristen Stewart (Bella) and her hunky vampire boyfriend, Robert Pattinson (Edward). This couple sizzles despite their tender ages (at least on film). It is bound to get even hotter when the next installment of the series rolls along.

Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) was one vampire I wouldn’t have minded meeting. Not only was he sexy and good looking but he was more than willing to ignore his baser instincts. What he couldn’t ignore; however, was his love of reporter, Beth Turner (Sophia Myles). He moved heaven and earth trying to figure out a way to be with her without putting her at risk. You have to admire that kind of devotion.

I’m almost tempted to list the next couple as a trio because it is nearly impossible to decide with which leading man, leading lady Claudia Black had the most chemistry. Although she sizzled for a short time with Dr. Daniel Jackson on “SG-1”, I have to say she was even hotter as Officer Aeryn Sun with Farscape’s John Crichton (Ben Browder). It was almost too close to call.

They may be fledgling lovers but there is no doubt that Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) will be long-term lovers on the new CW hit “Vampire Diaries.” Of course, Stefan’s darker brother, Damon (Ian Sumerhalder) may cause a few hiccups along the way. Still, I’m confident that true love will eventually prevail.

“Batman Forever” might not have fared well with critics but the on screen romance between Dr. Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman) and Bruce Wayne (Val Kilmer) did well. Some prefer the pairing of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman and Michael Keaton’s Batman, but I prefer the more cerebral pairing.

Another comic book couple makes the list with Ben Affleck’s Daredevil and Jennifer Garner’s Elektra. Although the movie didn’t light up the screens to catch on with the fans, the chemistry that ignited with the actors on screen spilled over into real life. They are happily married and one of Hollywood’s elite.

When Angel left Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) all alone on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” another vampire stepped in to fill his shoes. While he fared poorly trying to make the beautiful blonde his own, Spike (James Masters) went all the way to hell to prove his love for her. He never won her heart but he certainly won her respect and maybe that was enough. Did I forget to mention their sex scenes were combustible?

While Buffy was having fun with Spike, Angel (David Boreanz) was discovering there was a lot more to his leading lady, Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter). For seven years, the show tempted and tantalized fans with the promise of something special. But in the end, Cordy died before their love could be consummated. Sad but still sexy.

For more than 30 years one couple has remained on the minds and in the hearts of “Star Wars” lovers everywhere - - Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Hans Solo (Harrison Ford). Whether they were bickering or kissing, it didn’t matter. The chemistry between the couple was palpable. It heated up the screen back then and continues to ignite some three decades later.

“Lost” created two super couples. The first one was handsome, courageous doctor Jack Shepard (Matthew Fox) and beautiful criminal Kate Austen (Evangeline Lilley). While she toyed with another man on the island, off and on, in the end she proclaimed her love for Jack. The question remains will fans ever get to see the two really commit before the show bites the dust?

The other hotter than a firecracker “Lost” couple came in the form of ne’er-do-well Sawyer (Josh Holloway) and gutsy Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell). No one saw that pairing coming but when Jack and Kate left the island, Juliet and Sawyer discovered they had a lot in common. The result was a love affair that rang strong and true.

When I first saw the pairing for “Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” I wasn’t sure the powers-that-be knew what they were doing. However, it wasn’t long before I was rooting for Dean Cain’s Clark Kent to steal the heart of his Lois Lane (Terri Hatcher) away from the evil Lex Luthor. He finally did and like all TV couples should, they lived happily ever after.

A pairing between a good witch and a demon seemed out of the question for “Charmed.” However, Alyssa Milano’s Phoebe just wouldn’t be denied her love for the demon Baltizar, aka Cole Turner (Julian McMahon). Even though they knew almost from the beginning they couldn’t possibly work, the pair loved each other enough to try and their fans were all the better for it.

Brendan Frazer’s Rick O’Connell and Rachel Weisz’s Evelyn Carnahan seemed like a recipe for disaster in “The Mummy” and “The Mummy Returns”. However, his swashbuckling hero got all soft and mushy when her Rhodes Scholar Evie was in danger. It was easy to believe this pairing and to root for them to defeat all the evil mummies of the world.

The next two couples have the same leading man. What can I say? He’s got enough charisma to fill two whole planets. Tom Welling’s Clark Kent was utterly adorable with his childhood sweetheart Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk). It took them years to work through all of their problems and finally end up together. But, alas, fate tore them apart almost immediately. Still, the star-crossed lovers left a mark on the sci-fi world.

With Lana gone, the door opened for Superman to be (Tom Welling) destined lover, Lois Lane (Erica Durance). They started off as friends, continued as colleagues, and eventually found themselves in each other’s arms; right where they belonged. Luckily, the love story has just begun and hopefully fans will get to see true love grow.

There is only one couple that could be named in the number one spot. She was a redheaded doctor with a scientific mind. He was a dark brooding FBI agent with a belief in the impossible. When Fox Muldar (David Duchovny) joined ranks with Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), the stars aligned to form TV’s most memorable sci-fi couple. Although “The X-Files” never really answered they question: Did they or didn’t they, fans choose to believe they did and that was just as satisfying.
