Remember the good old days when Lost Boys: the Tribe didn’t exist and we were still content with Corey Haim and Corey Feldman teaming up in the original Lost Boys? Of course you don’t, if you saw that mockery of a sequel, you probably can’t figure out what the hell happened. Quite simply put, the same thing happened that has been happening to all 70’s and 80’s horror movies being remade or rebooted over the past 5 or 6 years. Someone thought, I’ll take a good thing, and completely destroy it by attaching a sequel to its legacy that isn’t even worth the film it’s printed on. Okay, maybe that’s not exactly what they thought, but it certainly seems that way doesn’t it. The Lost Boys falls into that category of great 80’s horror movies that can still be watched today. I think that the 2007 sequel, The Tribe is an insult to the original and has very little to do with it predecessor if anything at all.

With Lost Boys 3: the Thirst already in production, I can honestly say that if its as bad the second movie, I won’t bother sticking around to find out if Haim and Feldman can bring it all back in the forth film, which has been confirmed. Corey Haim played the main character in the original, Sam was a great character that fell right into the role at the time and made the film what it is. I may just skip the third film and wait around for the fourth; I just can’t see anything good spawning from that cinematic vomit, The Tribe. So, look for Haim to come back not in this upcoming installment of what has now become a series, but in the fourth film.

On an even more discouraging note, Let the Right One in adaptation, Let Me in is through its first week of filming. There’s no stopping it now, and although it may not be as bad I’m expecting it to be, I can’t urge you strongly enough to get out and see the Swedish original. If you’re wondering, Let Me In has the exact same plot summary as Let the Right One in.

My DVD recommendation for today is The Lost Boys (1987). After moving to a new town, two brothers are convinced that the area is frequented by vampires. Enjoy.
