The organizers of the SunTrust National Marathon, the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, announced today that registration for the 2010 marathon will open this Saturday, July 4th at 12:01 AM.

To celebrate both the nation's birthday and the event's fifth anniversary, there will be a reduced fee for registration available through July 11th. If you register between July 4th and 11th, registration is only $65 for the marathon and only $55 for the half marathon. And, in response to the enormous growth the event has seen over the past 4 years, the field size has been expanded to 12,000 runners.

According to the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, here are some fast facts about the races:

  • The 5th annual SunTrust Marathon and Half Marathon will be held Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 7am
  • Marathon and half marathon course entirely inside the District of Columbia
  • Fastest flat, looped marathon course in the nation according to Running USA
  • Boston Qualifier

Take some time from your 4th of July BBQs and get togethers to register for this fabulous event. And registering for a race is the #1 way to stay motivated!!
