This week's HDH is in honor of National Men's Health Week. The goal of National Men's Health Week is to bring awareness to the preventable health problems of men and highlight the importance of early detection and treatment of illness and injury for boys and men.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, men are simply less healthy than women. Men are more likely to drink, smoke, eat poorly, avoid seeing the doctor on a regular basis, and engage in riskier behaviors. This is why it's important to reach out to men and help them learn ways to live a healthier lifestyle. And, guys, it's not just important for your own life and longevity, but it's important to set a good example for your friends and family. And when you're healthier, you can actually be there for them when they need you.
While it's important to diagnose and treat disease as early as possible, it is just as important to prevent disease. And the surefire ways that help prevent serious health problems are eating well and being physically active. And what better way to be active than run?
Take time this week to tell the men in your life how much they mean to you. Tell them you want them to be around for a long time. Then take them on a run. Knowing they have a support system in place will help them take the steps toward living a healthier lifestyle.
Happy Running!
