Today's HDH has to do with your old running shoes.  What do you do with them?  Well, donate them!

There are quite a number of ways to donate your old running shoes. Here is a list of only a few organizations that welcome your used running shoes and send them off to the places that need them most. There are actually tons of companies that accept used running shoes.

United Runners

United Runners is a non-profit that was started by local Germantown, MD resident Edoardo Rincon.  The organization collects used running shoes and sends them to kids participating in a running program in Colombia, Rincon's home country. You can take your used running shoes to Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg, where Rincon is the Director of Sales & Training.

Soles4Souls

Shoe companies, retailers, and individuals can donate footwear both new and used to those in need around the world. Soles4Souls has coordinated relief efforts in regions around the country by working with local retailers to collect shoes and ship them to the organization's headquarters.  To learn more, and find out how you can help, see the info box below.

Hope Runs

Hope Runs is a non-profit group working in Kenya and Tanzania that helps to empower AIDS orphans through running and education. They accept donations of all kinds, including running shoes.

Nike Reuse-A-Shoe

Nike grinds your old running shoes (Nike or otherwise) into material that makes athletics and playground surfaces.

Recycling your used running shoes is more than just an environmentally friendly thing to do. You're helping someone in need not only enjoy the wonders of running, but possibly make a new life for themselves, one step at a time.

Happy running!
