Ireland's 32: Home of NCING.

In these modern times the North Hollywood dive bar has become such an anomaly that one often has to spread the term generously over a slice of white bread and sprinkle it with a hint of neighborhood pub-like charm in order to come close to all the phrase encompasses. Only then will one be able to define Van Nuys’ own Ireland’s 32 as a ‘dive bar’.

Located on Burbank Boulevard in the heart of the Valley, Ireland’s 32 draws a varied crowd of your standard suburban stereotypes from cougars to popped collars, from mechanics to that group of “whooo” girls just looking for a quiet, albeit intoxicated, night out. All smiles and good cheer, it is impossible for anyone to look or feel out of place in such a cozy, wood paneled venue.

Ireland’s 32 also boasts live music and/or entertainment nightly. Repeating acts include 29 Mules, and Xavier & Casey Cannon as well as karaoke on Sunday and Tuesday nights. They also broadcast the best of Euro Football and Celtic sports for the wandering Anglophile who simply has to see Ulster beat in the next match, or that curious Yank who finds himself wondering, “Just what is the deal with Hurling?”

The kitchen offers up standard Ami-Ire pub faire with everything from chicken wings to bangers ‘n’ mash and some corned beef cabbage in between. Prices range comfortably under $10 with daily specials and a full Irish breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays serving to appease your growling bowels.

The bar serves up Smithwicks, Guinness, Stella, Harp and Bass on tap with the cider’s represented lovingly by Blackthorn and Strongbow. Should these not be to your liking, there’s a full liquor shelf with which one might busy his liver consuming.

While the pub itself does little to stand apart from the sea of Anglo-Irish pubs in the greater Los Angelean area, it does well in comparison if only to fade into the ranks as a decent bar with friendly staff and enough Irish kitsch on the walls to make a Bostonian St. Patrick's Day parade blush.
