A few years ago I found myself sitting in a small pub off of Dame Street in Dublin, Ireland. Forgotten by the thronging tourist mass of Temple proper, this tiny watering hole exuded a delicious comfortableness lost on the Disney-fied drinking district a block away. The White Harte Pub, located in beautifully suburban Woodland Hills, is the closest to that aura of familiarity yet to be found in these United States.
A broad claim to be sure, but once one wanders onto the twinkle lit patio and through the wooden doors into the bar itself, the comfortable cottage-like interior will win over even the most anti-anglophiliac hearts, and seduce those wandering expats from across the pond.
White Harte, pouring out the best English ales and ciders, offers up Strongbow and Blackthorn, Boddington's Pub Ale, and Smithwick's as well as the always appreciated Newcastle; and these are just the highlights on a seriously British beer list (accompanied by a full bar, of course).
Also boasting two patios; one in front for the people watchers and one out back for the dart throwers and rugby lovers, a menu full of cornish pasties, bangers 'n' mash and shepherd's pie, clean bathrooms and weekly events, The White Harte is a great stop at the beginning or the end of your evening.
Events include Karaoke on Sundays and Wednesdays, live music Mondays, Trivia Tuesdays, and themed Friday nights (Star Wars, Alice in Wonderland, anything they can think of plus you in costume).
