Don't worry, that gaping hole is just where the fun begins!

Just off the PCH in Manhattan Beach lies a gap-toothed Mom 'n' Pop pub lovingly referred to as The Schooner.

Holding true to the age old stigma of a "good ol' boys" joint, The Schooner plays host to a slew of friendly and familiar faces. With all the ambiance of a truly neighborhood pub, every patron is family and every stranger a friend. Older gentleman mix knowingly with the younger, more virile crowd in this sausage fest of a dive, and fairly quickly any unfamiliar female is treated to a $1 Bud Light, lovingly referred to by the bartender as "The Spit".

A regular "Joe Six-Pack" dive, The Schooner is home to a bevy of nightly specials: $1 domestics on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Breakfast served on the weekends from 9-12pm with $2 Bloody Mary's, $7 lunch specials, and even Meat Bingo. Yes...you play for meat.

No dive is complete without a well-loved pool table (The Schooner has two), a dartboard, a jukebox blaring nothing but Queen, The Boss or Van Halen, and the hometown sports team broadcast in hi-def from every flat surface available. The Schooner, being a Dodgers/Kings/Chargers dive, delivers just that. It's a simple bar, a comfortable bar, and the regulars seem to like it just fine.

The taps are decent: Stella Artois, Pyramid Hefeweizen, Sam Adams, Fat Tire, Coors, MGD, Bud and the mystery "Seasonal" option. As for bottles, they offer up Stella Artois, Heineken, Guinness, Negra Modelo, Strongbow, Amber Bock, Michelob Ultra, Budweiser, Bud Lite and O'Doul's. There is also an expansive liquor shelf on display, should your palate tingle for something a little stronger.

Ample parking almost everywhere you look, as well as a pub-style restaurant next door. Drive careful though, PCH is notorious for lurking ticket-happy cops.

Get your own bottle of Spit at 1120 22nd St. #24, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. And for your own safety, be a Dodgers fan.

For more info: The Schooner offers advertising to local restaurants and merchants. It is also a party friendly place, just warn them ahead of time.
