General Motors (GM) is launching alternative fuel models in India, and has invested close to $61 million in a research and development division, India’s “The Economic Times” reports.
“We are looking at CNG and LPG vehicles for India and are closely working with our regional partners in Thailand and Korea for this connection”, GM India, Director Vehicles Integration-India, Ravi Desai, said.
GM is also working on a biodiesel program and has sought 80 hectares of land in Gujarat to cultivate the plant Jatropha.
The news of General Motor’s plan to diversify its offerings on the Indian market come as GM and Ford Motor Company Co. reported a third quarter loss of $14.6 billion raising the likelihood of a Government bailout.
