160 American mayors are now supporting the energy independence plan Texas’ oilman T. Boone Pickens presented in July, 2008. Aimed to reduce the United States dependence of foreign oil with wind power and natural gas, the Pickens Plan has the support of 1.3 million members.

“I am happy to join with T. Boone Pickens to increase alternative fuel usage so that we can all achieve energy independence”, said Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, one of the first signers of the Pickens Pledge. “The city of Las Vegas has long been a leader in sustainability and alternative fuel use. More than 90 percent of the city vehicles and equipment run on some type of alternative fuel”.

Three mayors in the Dallas area have also signed the pledge.  They are:  Mayor Roy Floyd of Bonham, Mayor Bill Whitfield of McKinney, and Mayor John Harper of Rowlett.
