The Copiah County School District refused a lesbian highschooler's tuxedo photo for her highschool's yearbook. The photo of senior lesbian highschooler Ceara Sturgis, who will graduate next year from a Mississippi high school, shows her in tuxedo and bow tie.
Ceara Sturgis has been attending the school for 13 years, and as she puts it, as reported in Metro Weekly, ''I think I have just as much right as everyone else to be in that yearbook...I figured I've been going there for 13 years, they would put it in the yearbook, but I guess I was wrong...I'm standing up for a bunch of people that support me''
Clearly Copiah County School District is refusing Ceara Sturgis' request, supported by the American Civil Liberties Union, because she is gay and dresses masculine. However, Ceara and her mother are unsure of whether or not they will file a law suit against the school district.
