Playback Memphis Company Members

Playback Memphis SEEKING 3-4 new company members.
Auditions will be held Sunday, June 28th from 2:30 -5:00
at First Congregational Church (1000 So Cooper).

*****Particularly seeking actors/dancers of color and actors/dancers from LGBT community*****
 

Playback Memphis is an improvisational performance company that brings stories told by the audience to life using movement, text, music, and poetry. Playback Memphis is dedicated to creating compelling, interactive theater that promotes dialogue, invites reflection, and builds community.

Performance Venues and Audiences:
Playback Memphis serves a number of populations and organizations. Playback theater is used for entertainment, as well as a tool for mediation, diversity training, staff development, and self/community reflection. Typical partners we collaborate with are:
• Hospitals
• Prisons
• Drug/Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers
• Mental Health Agencies
• Religious Communities
• Programs serving Immigrants/Refugees

Playback Memphis has recently performed for NAMI Memphis (National Alliance for Mentally Ill), Memphis Leadership Academy, Memphis Public Library, Special Kids and Families, White Privilege Conference, University of Memphis, Hattiloo Theatre, and Theatre Works.

Company Life/ Commitment: We are currently 8 actors and 1 musician. We rehearse every other Sunday from 2-5 at First Congo in midtown. Our performance schedule varies in regards to dates, times, and locations based on where we are hired to perform. After a 6 month trial period actors are paid $30 -$75 a performance. Actors need to be available for all rehearsals (especially when new to company). Actors trade out performing shows when available.

Who You Are: Someone with performance background (dance or theater), interested in improvisation and ensemble work, of open mind and heart ,reflective, caring, works/plays well with others, believes in the healing and transformative powers of theater, and committed to using theater as a tool to inspire connection, hope, and healing.
