Fourth of July celebrations and fireworks in the Washington DC area

Cities across the Washington DC area are holding festivals, concerts, parades, and fireworks displays to celebrate America’s Independence Day on July 4th. Here are some local events that you and your family can enjoy on the fourth. While most events have raindates of July 5th, check their website to find out further details.

Cities in Maryland holding fireworks celebrations:

The City of Rockville is holding free concerts with fireworks following. The celebration will take place from 7pm until 10pm on the 4th of July on the Montgomery County College Rockville Campus. See their website for more details.

Gaithersburg is holding a free concert by Free Spirit at 7pm followed by fireworks. Their event will be held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds at 16 Chestnut Street. Click here for more details.

Frederick has their fireworks display in Baker Park at dusk. Get there early in the evening for food, contests, free concerts, and children’s activities throughout the park. See this about.com article for more details.

Columbia will be holding a 4th of July Festival at 5pm at the Columbia Lakefront. There will be two stages for live performances by bands as well as an entertainment area for kids. Fireworks will start at 9:30pm. Food vendors will be present but the Columbia Association recommends bringing a picnic dinner. Click here for more details.

Baltimore holds its fireworks display off the Inner Harbor. It’s a beautiful place to watch fireworks over the water. Electric Brigade will be playing at 9pm with fireworks starting at 9:30pm. There are several other places in the city to watch the Inner Harbor fireworks display. See this website for more info.

Annapolis will be having at parade at 6:30pm. Then the United States Naval Academy Band will be performing at 8pm followed by fireworks over the Annapolis Harbor. The city has an extensive information website if you would like more information.

Some celebrations and fireworks in northern Virginia:

Vienna will be holding fireworks in Yeonas Park with extra seating available in Southside Park. These areas will open to the public at 5pm with the show starting at 9:15pm. The fireworks are sponsored by Tysons Corner Center and the Vienna Rotary Club. While the website says there will be a concession stand open, it does not have any information on other forms of entertainment before the fireworks show. See this website for more info.

Fairfax will be having a celebration on the 4th of July that consists of a parade at 10am in the downtown historic district, tours of historic sites, and an evening show at 7pm at Fairfax High School. Fireworks will be held at the high school after the show. This website has more information.

Arlington has many neighborhood parades on the fourth of July. They also have a list of places to watch the fireworks display from the National Mall. Visit their website for more information.

Alexandria will be holding fireworks at Oronoco Bay Park at 9:30pm on Saturday, July 11th. There will be a festival starting at 4pm with a performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra at 9pm. Click here for more details.

Manassas is holding a festival starting at 4pm with fireworks starting at 9:15pm. This event takes place on West Street in Manassas. There will be children’s activities, concerts, and food available. If you want to find out more, click here.
