First up’s the middle-schoolers in what’s sure to be a competitive match-up between two regional squads. Tipoff is 5:30 pm PT.
Oregon’s team is led by eighth grader, Nigel Williams-Goss of Happy Valley. Word is the 13 year-old is already receiving recruiting letters from UCLA. The 6-0 140-pound guard with the smooth stroke was named top cat at both the Junior All-American camp in Chantilly, Va., and the Adidas Junior Phenom Camp in San Diego. This past June, the kid earned a spot on the AAU U-17 team, I-5 Elite at the Rose City Showcase.
Washington Youth Elite is headed by Seattle Rotary Style’s Arell Hennings and top ranked 7th grade shooting guard Alonzo Trier.
The evening reaches its pinnacle when the high school talent hits the hardwood at 7:30 pm PT.
Don’t blink or you’ll miss Arizona-bound 6-6 small forward Mike Moser (Grant High) going up against fellow Wildcat-to-be guard Abdul Gaddy (Bellarmine Prep). Both will be fighting for bragging rights before they team up next year in Pac-10 play.
In addition to Moser, Team Oregon coached by Canaan Chatman features a number of future D-1 recruits. Expected to play: Terrence Jones, 6-8 junior forward, Jefferson (ranked top 25 nationally in Class of 2010); Kyle Wiltjer, 6-9 sophomore forward, Jesuit; Stephen Holt, 6-3 junior forward, Jesuit; Garrett Jackson, 6-6 junior guard-forward, Westview; Max Jacobsen, 6-6 senior forward, Lake Oswego (committed to Portland State); Jordan Railey, 6-10 junior center, Beaverton; Jordan Tebbutt, 6-3 freshman guard, Horizon Christian (ranked top 10 nationally in Class of 2012); Cameron McCaffrey, 6-1 senior guard, Century; and Cody Hickey, 6-5 senior guard, Canby.
Don’t look past the Jim Marsh coached Team Washington. The Gaddy additions expected to impress: Peyton Siva, 5-11 senior guard, Franklin (committed to Louisville); Aaron Dotson, 6-4 shooting guard/forward, Rainier Beach; Joshua Smith, 6-10 junior center, Kentwood (ranked top five nationally in Class of 2010); Cole Dickerson, 6-7 forward, Federal Way (half brother of former NBAer Michael Dickerson); Patrick Simon, 6-7 forward, Ephrata (Class of 2010 Washington State commit); and Tony Wroten Jr., 6-5 guard, Garfield (top player nationally in Class of 2011).
