Sporting News is counting down daily their top 40 teams leading into the beginning of the season. No. 36 is the Dawgs.

Considering this is a team that couldn’t find their way into the NIT last season, not a bad place to be. Only UCLA (8), USC (11) and Arizona State (15) rank ahead, predicting Huskies finish fourth in the Pac-10, good enough to get into the NCAA tournament.

This will be a veteran group compared to teams of the past three years led by 6-7 power forward Jon Brockman. He returns for his senior year after averaging 17.8ppg and 11.6rpg.  The preseason All-American candidate was recently named by ESPN as the top rebounder in college basketball.  Lorenzo Romar says, “Each year, he has made monumental strides. His sophomore year, he looked nothing like his freshman year. His junior year, he looked nothing like his sophomore year. So, if he can just improve anywhere, he'll have a great year."

Familiar faces returning next season: sophomore guard Venoy Overton; senior guard Justin Dentmon; junior wing Quincy Pondexter; senior forward Artem Wallace; sophomore forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning; and junior center 7-0 Joe Wolfinger.

The class of 2008 ranked by scout.com #22 in the country: 5-8 guard Isaiah Thomas; 6-6 wing Scott Suggs; 6-4 wing Elston Turner; and 6-6 forward Tyreese Breshers.

How the incoming freshman mesh with the vets should determine whether or not this team will be dancing come March.
