‘To live is Christ,’ from Philippians 1:21.

I am one of those people who gets caught up in planning. Being an organized individual, I often feel that I cannot function properly if the use of my time is not itemized. I tend to get so caught up in my busyness, that every now and then, my time with God gets pushed to the bottom of the list, when spending time with Him should be my top priority.

Aside from being a zealous planner, I am a constant worrier! I have endured many a sleepless night, often springing up in bed from a form of a panic attack, worrying incessantly about things I have no control over. They say it’s mind over matter when it comes to things like this, but in my experience, it has definitely been God over mind, over matter. Once I handed over my burdens to Him and began to trust Him wholeheartedly, I realized that I didn’t have time to waste on worrying. Eventually, my worrying ceased and I became more focused than ever on what God wanted to use me for during my time on this earth. I understood that I was designed with a purpose in mind, and I was ready to begin walking with God day by day so that I would be listening as God revealed His plan to me.

I love what Matt Redman says about being an Unending Worshiper, ‘This life is not a dress rehearsal or a waste of time. We can live with Jesus and for Jesus, ushering in His kingdom here and now.’ We cannot encounter Him today when we are consumed by the worries of tomorrow. Jesus does not want us to worry about the future, as we hear in Matthew 24:6, ‘You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.’

God wants us to live for Him in the here and now. When it comes to knowing Him, there will never be a day spent on this earth when we reach a point of knowing all there is to know about God. We are precious treasures to God, and He is the most beautiful treasure we could ever dream of finding. We must seek God with passionate fervor, come before Him with extravagant offerings of excellent worship, know His truth and study His word each and every day. There is no room for our procrastination when it comes to knowing God and living our lives for Him.

When I think of the relationship between God and time (present and future,) I hear Twila Paris’ memorable song, God is in Control, swirling through my head: ‘History marches on. There is a bottom line drawn across the ages. Culture can make its plan, Oh, but the line never changes. No matter how the deception may climb, there is one thing that has always been true- it will be true forever. God is in control. We believe that His children will not be forsaken. God is in control. We will choose to remember and never be shaken. There is no power above or beside Him we know. God is in control.’

I plan to use my time wisely, living for Christ, to live for Him today and always; looking straight ahead, running the race He mapped out for me with determination, keeping my eye on the prize- an eternity with my Father in heaven. How will you use your time?
