Nowadays there exist many interpretations and meanings of the concept of Feng Shui. For some Feng Shui is an art, for others – a science. Let’s take a look at different opinions.

Feng Shui as a science about the environment
In The Principles of Feng Shui, Larry Sang calls Feng Shui, or Chinese Geomancy, a natural science that views environment as an integral element of the art of living. Sang also believes that Feng Shui is a mathematical system that devises the best spaces for person’s life and work. So, is Feng Shui all about the environment?
Feng Shui as an art of living
The idea of Billy Yamaguchi, the author of Feng Shui Beauty, is that Feng Shui, as an art of living, should start within a person, and be rooted in one’s self. Yamaguchi believes that Feng Shui is a guide to understanding individual energies: what is good for one person, may be fatal for another. So, looks like Feng Shui deals not only with the environment, but with the personality as well.
Feng Shui for both environment and soul
The above opinions are supported by Sharon Stasney in Feng shui chic. The author considers Feng Shui to be the art of making design choices that support your life’s path. Such choices should be dictated not by traditions or rules of Feng Shui only. Design, according to Stasney, should reflect the person’s individual cultural and psychological characteristics.
Well, definitions differ. However, there is the common ground: Feng Shui is about locating objects in space, and living in harmony with oneself and the world. So, everybody is right: in some aspects Feng Shui is a science, in others – an art. Everything depends on what you need personally, and how you understand the environment and the self.
So, what is Feng Shui for you?
