This is a tough one. Many couples have children play an important role during the ceremony usually serving as the flower girl, ring bearer and sometimes you’ll see a young boy run down the aisle ringing a bell to announce the bride's entrance. It’s a special moment and they should be a part of the day. However guests must not overlook the importance of this day to the bride, groom and their immediate family. They shouldn’t feel offended if the couple provides a nursery at the ceremony. I’ve seen it more than once, a crying baby at the ceremony and inevitably the baby will cry out during the pastor speaking or even worse during the vows. You can’t edit that audio out of the video. So not only has it affected the day of the event but now it’s most likely on video forever. If there’s no nursery, the best option is to sit on the back row and have a quick escape if necessary.
Then there’s the reception. In the beginning, the reception is more structured whereas you have the initial dances between bride and groom and their family. But later on in the evening especially if alcohol is present, people gather round the dance floor as the party begins to take off. Small children on or near the dance floor will most likely get stepped on and moved about. It’s a bad mix. When adults are drinking and dancing, children need to be far away. Have a smaller area for them to play or at least let’s hope the parent will be aware enough and accompany their child. Any child that’s less than 4 feet tall will have a close encounter. They’re not tall enough to be seen and accidents have happened.
