Careful when planning an outside wedding.

Careful when planning an outside wedding.  Spring has its showers and fall has its hurricane season thus providing Georgians with unpredictable and sometimes severe weather.  Combine that with our recent flooding and you never know what surprises the weather will have in store for your special day.  Be flexible and prepared.  Don’t risk your wedding day memories.  Have a back up plan.   We recently photographed and videotaped an outside wedding during the recent storms.  The couple had decided to have their wedding outside in a beautifully landscaped backyard and garden area.  From the moment we arrived, it was easy to see how tempting it was to have a wedding there.  The facility did a wonderful job decorating.   The area that the bride and groom would stand during the ceremony had a wooden arch beautifully decorated with white linens and artificial dark red roses.  

About an hour or so before the wedding started, the rain began to fall.  Unfortunately, no one thought about the décor.  As the rain fell, the red dye in the artificial roses began to bleed and run down the white linens.   An observant guest noticed and without hesitation, one of the facility’s staff ran into the downpour, quickly removing the flowers.   After the rain ended, they dried the chairs, the candles and replaced some of the décor and did a pretty good job cleaning things up.  There wasn’t much they could do with the linens though.  They did a decent job covering the stains with new flowers so it didn’t stand out too bad.   It was a little tricky walking through the grass with heels so some of the guests waited to be seated until right before the ceremony started.   The humidity did increase but at least the rain stopped before the ceremony. 

 During the reception, they had a covered patio which did provide a good area for dancing but even so, the dance floor wasn’t spotless.   The hem of the bride’s dress did get a little dirty even after it was bustled.  They had to have the pre-ceremony photos taken after the wedding which did delay the reception somewhat.  But the couple and their families were all in good spirits despite the storm and the extra hassles that always accompany bad weather.  They did have a backup plan to move the ceremony inside should the rain have continued.  It would have been crowded but still a better option than people trying to squeeze under a shelter or covered deck not meant for a large reception.  Overall the bride got her wish, to be married outside.  Just be mindful of outside weddings.  Weather is never predictable so make sure your facility has a backup plan that will provide adequate room for all of your guests.
