Few and far between are there artists that lay unknown beneath our ears, our eyes and our emotions. I first heard the music of Mike Welch not too long ago, and I instantly liked his work. With a reminiscence of early blues tunes mixed with slow rhythms and heart-felt lyrics, “Monster Mike”, as he has been known in earlier years, performs a mixture of all things good.

I really enjoy artists that are still grounded and experience day to day living, (with the exception of performing each night and sleeping on the road) as Mike Welch does. He appreciates the people that he has worked with and returns recording favors quite often to those that have helped him in the past. He has recorded music with his band on a record entitled Certified, and has solo records entitled Cryin’ Hey and his newly released Just Like It Is.

You can find Mike touring with Sugar Ray right now, as he works his way through Europe and then back into the states over the winter. If you have a soft spot for the blues, you must listen to Mike Welch and his prominent My Baby Loves Me and the soothing Heaven Knows, directly from his Just Like It Is album. Mike Welch offers a simple approach to the blues with an intricate relationship with his guitar: purely melodic.
