Remember the Rubik's Cube? That maddening, multicolored mechanical puzzle that was all the rage in the early 1980s? Of course you do--unless, of course, you're too young to have been around back then.
The cube is back . . . with a 21st century twist. The new electronic TouchCube debuting in stores later this month makes the original toy seem positively quaint. Moving parts are just so passe! Instead of physically rotating the components to get all the colors over to one side, today's tech-savvy puzzlers will move the colored squares around simply by touching the sides of the cube with a fingertip.
The built-in computer (you knew it had to have one) keeps track of which side is up, can solve itself, and is happy to provide hints to the frustrated. When it's not being played with, the cube rests on a charger, glowing reassuringly. Sure, the $150 price tag is a little steep, but hey--it can double as a night light for the kid (big or small) who has everything.
