Today is the 71st anniversary of Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass" which took place in Germany and Austria. and was considered to be the beginning of the implementation of the "Final Solution" to murder the Jews of Europe. On the nights of November 9 and 10, 1938, mobs made up of the Gestapo, SS, SA and Hitler Youth attacked Jews in the street, in their homes, places of work, and synagogues. At least 96 Jews were killed and many more injured. 30,000 Jews were arrested and sent to concentration camps. More than 1,000 synagogues were burned, 7,500 Jewish businesses destroyed, and cemeteries and schools were vandalized. (Sources: The Jewish Virtual Library and Wikipedia).
