Are you planning to stay in Tampa for the holiday weekend? Take advantage of the many area Fourth of July celebrations. Many have events specifically designed for children, and most are free to attend.

Downtown Tampa
  • Head to Channelside and bring the whole family. Music, food, and children’s games will begin at 2 PM. The fireworks will start at 9 PM.
  • If you prefer to stay indoors until the sun goes down, check out the Florida Aquarium.    Admission is just $10.00 after 3 PM, and hours are extended until 9:30 so you can stay and watch the Channelside fireworks without moving your car.
  • Even better? The new Tampa Bay History Center is offering free admission and extended hours. Tour the exhibits from 10 AM to 8:30 PM and then stick around for the show. The museum’s café will remain open until 10 PM.
Brandon   The Brandon Blast is an annual two-day event that includes kids’ contests, arts and crafts, and a barbecue competition. Admission is free with food and drinks for sale. The festival takes place on July 4 10 AM-9:30 PM and July 5 from 12 noon to 6 PM. Fireworks will go up at 9 PM on Saturday. All activities will take place at Westfield Brandon mall.

Temple Terrace
  • For more than thirty years, Temple Terrace has proudly held an Independence Day Parade. This year the parade will run from 10 to noon beginning at Greco Middle School, located at 6925 E. Fowler Avenue. The Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club will shoot fireworks that night, accompanied by a performance from the Florida Wind Band at 8 PM.
  • The Museum of Science and Industry won’t be launching rockets, but imagination sparks might fly. MOSI is offering a buy one get one free deal during Fourth of July weekend. Pay for one adult general admission and get one of equal or lesser value for free July 3-5.
Tampa
  • Jackson’s Bistro on Harbor Island will be a great viewing area for night owls. A dance party, complete with food and drink, will kick off The Fourth from 10 PM to 3 AM. The fireworks will be shot off of a barge at 1 AM Saturday morning. This adults-only event is a fundraiser for The Children’s Home. Call 813-277-0112 for ticket information.
  •  Busch Gardens will present two special Summer Nights concerts. David Cassidy, famous for his role in the Partridge Family, will be featured on Friday and Starship will perform on The Fourth. Both Gwazi Park concerts will begin at 8 PM followed by 9:30 PM fireworks displays. Summer Nights events are included with park admission; park hours are 9 AM to 10 PM this weekend.
