The Fourth of July holiday is always an exciting time to spend the day in Pittsburgh with family and friends. There are more things to do here than can be counted on two hands. But the two most memorable and exciting events are the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Regatta and the spectacular fireworks display on the rivers in downtown Pittsburgh.
The fireworks presentations are usually put together by one of New Castle’s internationally known fireworks companies Zamebelli Fireworks Internationale or Pyrotecnico. This year’s fireworks production “Flashes of Freedom” is by Pyrotecnico and should be a jaw dropper, if the rains hold off. On a personal note, a few years ago this writer attended a Fourth of July celebration in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor with about 500,000 other people. To be polite, let’s just say Baltimore has nothing over Pittsburgh when it comes to presentation and longevity of fireworks displayed on our Independence Day!
There are a lot of activities planned in the water, on land and in the sky during this year’s Regatta, which will be held on July 3, 4, and 5, 2009. From the food to the Motocross Stunt Show to the “Anything that Floats” race to speed boat races to high wire acts to live shows and concerts; there is something for every one of all ages at this three day event. Performing on July 4th from 8:00pm – 9:30pm is the legendary musical group, Three Dog Night. Hopefully they will play one of their popular songs, “Eli’s Coming”, hence the title of this article. The fireworks spectacular will follow immediately after the concert. If you would like to know more about everything that is going at this year’s Regatta, just click on the links below. And just to let you know, the Regatta is free to attend!
Fireworks viewing, family picnics, and celebrations are great Fourth of July traditions we all take part in to show our love of country and our appreciation for our personal freedoms, freedoms we should never take for granted. Every American, this Independence Day, needs to take a moment and remember those who gave their lives, unselfishly, since 1776, so we as citizens could live life freely in a country like no other. Please take a moment, before you get out and about for the day, and pray for those brave men and women who are still serving, fighting and paying the ultimate price for our country so each one of us can keep a way of life we enjoy so much. Pittsburgher’s, Americans, don’t ever forget what sacrifices have and continue to be made for each and every one of us! There is a price for freedom. Like our salvation, it’s a debt we can never repay. Have a happy, safe and glorious holiday!
