The recent bent of the hot stove community when discussing the possible landing sites of C.C. Sabathia has been to associate the pitcher with any of the prospective city's celebrities. In a blog post Sunday, Buster Olney linked Sabathia to LeBron James via the Knicks -- a roundabout way of suggesting Sabathia would eventually end up in New York.
If the name game is really the best way of determining where Sabathia will end up in 2009, then the only way to Chavez Ravine is through the Hollywood pipeline. Good news for Dodger fans: He's already hooked up. Naturally, I'll start with Kevin Bacon.
Kevin Bacon played police detective Sean Devine in Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River" (2003) whose partner, Whitey Powers, was played by (no joke)...Laurence Fishburne, who starred as the geeky college student Dap in "School Daze" (1988), the second feature film directed by...Spike Lee, who later wrote, directed and produced "He Got Game" (1998), starring Denzel Washington and then-Milwaukee Bucks star...Ray Allen, who now with the Boston Celtics, got posterized in Game 4 of his 2008 NBA playoffs series against the Cleveland Cavaliers by...LeBron James, who while playing in Cleveland befriended the Indians' Cy Young Award winning pitcher...C.C. Sabathia.
Tell me if I'm reading too much into this, but if Sabathia isn't starting for the Dodgers next season, then if nothing else, Kevin Bacon has fallen off.
Ah, the joys of free agency...
