Muslim Imam Yasser Mohamed Shahade

You often hear Conservatives complain about bias in the media. Well, this has been a major complaint of mine since I was a teenager and I witnessed an outstanding example of it here in the Tampa Bay region this week.

Monday afternoon, I was watching one of the local TV stations, and just prior to a commercial, the anchor previewed a future story by saying that a "local church leader has been accused of sexual battery against a 13-year old boy." I ruefully shook my head and contemplated the glee of my Left Wing friends as another Catholic Priest would be "outed" as a homosexual pedophile. Fortunately, I waited through the commercial to watch the actual news report.

It turns out that the "church" involved was not a church at all, but a mosque. This fact was not mentioned in the misleading "teaser" for the story and the reporter then went out of her way to stress that the behavior of the individual involved does not reflect the entire Muslim community, which is like closing a report on a serial killer by saying not all men are serial killers. It is obvious and serves no real purpose other than to get across a political message.

This is a PERFECT example of political bias tainting the reporting of an issue. Clearly, the people who researched and created this story were politcally correct Liberals who were concerned that the actual facts of this story did not fit their "political world-view" which can essentially be broken down to a belief that all Muslims are a repressed minority and victims of racism, while all Christians are evil white racists whose main purpose in life is to repress and abuse people of color!

While that may seem like a harsh oversimplification to some of you, it is unfortunately a fairly accurate representation of the modern Political Left in this country. The people who created this TV report were so tainted by their own political beliefs that they could not bring themselves to write an honest headline for the story.

And what would an honest headline for this story look like? Well, a real journalist would write something like this, "Imam at Tampa Mosque charged with Sexual Battery on a 13-year old boy." That's it. That's all that needed to be said in a "teaser" to get someone to watch this report. Had the accused been a Catholic Priest you can bet your HOUSE that the headline would have mentioned the words "catholic" and "priest" yet all reference to the Muslim faith was scrubbed from the teaser. And to make matters worse, they even used the word "church" to describe where this attack took place. Muslims pray at a Mosque, not a church. Buddhists pray at a Temple, not a church. The word "church" was used specifically to convey a false impression, and that's despicable.

So the next time you Liberals and/or Moderates hear a Conservative complain about Media Bias, this is an example of what we're talking about. And if you are interested in the real facts of this terrible incident, it can be summed up as follows. A non-US citizen who has been in this country less than two months was charged with a sexual attack on a 13-year old boy. The accused is named Yasser Mohamed Shahade and he was an Imam at the Masjid Omar Al Mukhtar Mosque at 1307 W. North B Street in Hillsborough County.

Now that wasn't so hard, was it?
