The 11th annual Family Café Conference will be held from Friday, June 5th thru Sunday Jun 7th at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort. During this annual event a forum is provided for individuals with all types of disabilities and their families from all regions of Florida to gather information about available services and how to best access them.

It offers families access to policy-making officials, opportunities to find support by networking with other families, and exposure to a range of public and private resources.

“It was my privilege in 2008 to sign legislation at The Family Café that ensures Florida’s young people learn that persons with disabilities are just like anyone else – with dreams, desires, and abilities to achieve great things. It is an honor to work together with persons with disabilities and their families to safeguard the future and ensure opportunities for independence for persons with disabilities.”
Charlie Crist
Governor, State of Florida

So as you can see, this annual conference is an extremely important event in the central Florida region. How did this come to my attention? Through the kind information of Ann Millan. Ann’s daughter, Robin, is one of the presenters at the annual Family Café Conference. She is also an adult with autism.

Robin will share, via power point presentation, the story of her courageous journey from a very young child with severe autism to a young adult with high functioning autism and eventually to total independence as an adult with autism…. complete with job, driver’s license and…well, I will save the rest for her presentation.

I will simply add that if encouragement, motivation and hope are on your wish list for your young child, or anyone’s child with autistic-like symptoms, this is absolutely something you will not want to miss.

If you are in the Orlando area and you can possibly attend Robin’ scheduled session, please do so! I am certain it will be an event that sheds light on the tweaks and intricacies of forging the path that can lead to independence for the person with autism or autistic-like traits. Robin’s presentation will take place on Friday, June 5th. Her session begins at 3:00 pm and is titled, Autism: Believe in the future HOW.

I look to see you there!
