I Wanna Rock-n-Romp

October 24, 12:35 PM

Getting out to see a band play ain’t easy once you have kids. Unless you are lucky enough to have relatives nearby, you have to line up a sitter. And if your little ones are like mine, you can forget about sleeping in the next morning. It’s almost not worth going out. That’s why Rock-n-Romp is the best solution in town. It’s a hip and kid-friendly concert series that usually takes place at McGinty’s Pub in downtown Silver Spring, MD. Most Romps are scheduled for “after nap” from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and feature bands that play music you listened to before you had kids. The music isn’t too loud and the kids love it.

Below is a video my husband shot and produced highlighting the 2006 Halloween Rock-n-Romp. My little one is in there dressed up as a lion.

Interested? Good, because a post-Halloween bash is coming up. On November 1, you and your little goblins can get dressed up and go rock out at McGinty’s Rock-n-Romp style. Two awesome bands, Candy Coated Pain Pills and Friends of the Library will play, 3:30 to 6. The cost is $7 for adults. Kids under 12 are always free! Parking is free at the huge garage on Wayne Avenue.

My last post was about Clark Elioak Farns in Maryland. If it's too far away for you, check this out. Saturday we went out to Cox Farms in Centerville, VA, for my 3 year old’s friend’s birthday party. The crowd at this 90-acre farm was immense... Read More

I try to teach my son about conservation and recycling so he will develop responsible habits. I let him help me rinse out yogurt tubs, tear paper, and put the items in a paper bag. Then together we toss the whole shebang into the recycling bin (his favorite... Read More

Moms and the City

September 30, 12:11 PM
I moved from southwest Virginia to the DC area eight years ago. Adjusting was tough. I felt no sense of community like I had in the small town where I grew up. In 2004 my husband Chris and I bought a house in Hyattsville, MD, and had our first child... Read More
