Tofu delite!
Tofu Scramble at Muddy's by Becca Bartleson

Muddy's Coffeehouse is a little slice of heaven on N. Mississippi Ave. It's one of those lovely hip, but hippie Portland joints that supplies a perfect balance of old eclectic atmosphere with modern day cooking sensibilities.

In other words this breakfast and lunch spot has an omnivorous menu punctuated by a veggie and vegan-friendly vocab.

Its location is a large rambling old house across from the rebuilding center. The furniture is used and couldn't match to save its wooden legs, but that's just part of the character. It has a home-is-where-the-hippie-is appeal.

This is the place where most down to earth Portlanders can eat happily and without complaint. The food is really tasty, the prices reasonable, the waitstaff friendly and the wifi free.

For a vegan breakfast I recommend the tofu scramble: the eggless version of the Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Scramble. Just make sure to tell them you're vegan. And as for lunch, Muddy's has one of the best sandwich's in town: Ode to Purple Parlor Tofu Sandwich. It's named after the former vegetarian restaurant that occupied the space.

In the summer their outdoor patio is a very chill place to get your breakfast on. Weekends do get busy so expect a wait if you can't make it on a weekday morning. For more information check out their website.
