There will be countless Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations during the next two weeks, but here's one that you don't want to miss! On Jan. 8, the Music Center at Strathmore will present an 80th Birthday Celebration to Dr. King, featuring the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO), Soulful Symphony and former NAACP President Kweisi Mfume.

This community celebration honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King will include choral groups, texts by Dr. King set to music and narrated by Kweisi Mfume, an original moving work by Darin Atwater, Soulful Symphony Founder and Artistic Director entitled Evolution of a People and much more.  I have seen Soulful Symphony perform and they are definitely a powerful music force. I can only imagine the musical magic that will occur when they join together with BSO.

The 80th Birthday Celebration begins at 8 p.m. and 25 dollar tickets are still available!  And when you purchase tickets at the Strathmore site you don't have to deal with that pesky "convenience" fee.  As we usher in, what we can only hope is a new era of politics, it's important to pay tribute to the pioneers and trailblazers who helped us get here.  The Strathmore's 80th Birthday Celebration is a musical testimonial, not only to Dr. King, but to all those who hoped for a better tomorrow.

Now go have unlimited fun with limited funds!
