Couldn't afford a ticket to the inaugural ball - official or bootleg?  Don't feel like standing in line at somebody's club for an expensive party? Feeling brave enough to venture into the city this weekend to hear some great music?  Then on Jan. 18, head over to the Black Cat for a taste of Eric Roberson's sound.

If you think you haven't heard Eric Roberson's music before, you're wrong, you have.  A New Jersey native, Howard University graduate, and a true independent artist who is committed to making music his own way, Roberson has penned songs for countless of today's soul artists.  For example, that's Roberson singing the beautiful, melodic, One Time with Jill Scott on her Experience: Jill Scott 826+ album.

Coming off the release of his fifth album, Left, Roberson is the epitome of a singer's singer.  During his concerts he entertains the crowd with his humor, his ability to freestyle songs and of course his smooth voice that practically puts you in a trance and has you wishing he could come home with you and sing you to sleep.  Check Roberson doing a freestyle piece here and then check him out this weekend!

The show is 22 dollars and starts at 8 p.m.  You can purchase tickets online at Ticketmaster or at the door.  Either way, plan to arrive early.  If you're looking for a little something different during this historic, inauguration weekend, you definitely won't be disappointed with Roberson's show.  The Black Cat is standing room only, so pick out some comfortable shoes and then prepare to celebrate history surrounded by soul.
