Music fans going to Saturday's Elton John and Billy Joel concert at Nationals Park will get extended hours from Metro.

Soccer fans who feel jilted after Metro's regular hours this week should know that Metro's extended hours are always the result of private or federal funding, which did not come through for Wednesday's game. A sponsor related to the concert has provided funding to Metro, allowing extended hours for trains and stations.

For instructions on getting to Nationals Park, please refer to this blog's earlier How To. Keep in mind that there will be NO Circulator running this route Saturday night and NO RFK parking shuttle. The Nationals MLB page also has additional information, and purchasing opportunities for pre-paid parking. (Parking at Metro is free on weekends.)

In fact, don't drive at all. Get There takes a surprisingly almost anti-car stance:

-- Don't think about parking on the street near the stadium unless you really know where you are and what you're doing. The District government set tough parking rules to protect the neighborhood residents.

Really though, by the time fans empty the stadium and catch a train at Metro, you'd be lucky to exit your parking spot. Do you want to do that to yourself?

If you take Metro, expect delays: This is a busy weekend for track maintenance as Metro works on Blue, Orange, Red, and Yellow Lines. Expect an additional half hour for your commute.

Metro also warns concert goers to expect long lines at Metro after the concert, at waits up to one hour.
