This is your friendly pre-weekend to expect an irritating ride or drive this weekend. Track maintenance, road closures, and the weather could screw it all up. Take a deep breath and remember nothing bad can last forever. And bring reading material.
Metro
This weekend's track maintenance will cover the Red and Orange lines. Add at least thirty minutes to your expected travel time. Here are the details from a WMATA press release:
Red Line Track Maintenance
Metrorail customers traveling between the New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet U and Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metrorail stations should add 20 minutes of travel time because of switch replacement work through the Brentwood rail yard near Union Station. A switch is an intersection in the track, where trains can "switch" from one track to another, depending on their destination and route. Trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Friday, June 5, to closing (midnight), on Sunday, June 7.
Orange Line Track Maintenance
Metrorail customers traveling between the Stadium-Armory and Cheverly Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips due to bridge maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.
These lines will also be the main rails for runners and participants heading to Race for the Cure. Metro will open at 5 a.m. for the race.
Road Closures
Roads will close for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Saturday. You can see a full list here.
Unifest is this weekend in Anicostia. You can see closings for that here.
Canal Road NW will remain open.
Miscellaneous
The area (various parts of DC, Maryland, and Virginia) are currently under a flood watch. So watch for high water, drive carefully, break early, and drive safe. This could close roads, or it could just be a lot of water.
The northbound lanes of I-270 between Muddy Branch and Middlebrook Roads will be paved. Cars will syphon into a single lane. Expect delays, and expletives if you're driving with or near me, weekdays 9 a.m.–3 p.m. and 8 p.m.–6 a.m.
