Today's Thursday Video, an irregular "series" on this blog of transit-related YouTube finds, comes a day early in the spirit of Thursday's annual "holiday," Dump the Pump. In short, commutes are frustrating and expensive, so leave your car at home and take public transportation. (If these sentiments sound familiar to car devotees, you may recall June 2008's dramatic spike in ridership.)

Metro is so spirited that it provided its own video for tomorrow's carless commute in a press release posted yesterday. WMATA's press release described the video:

In the spirit of 'Dump the Pump' Metro has released a short video featuring a commuter’s nightmare filled with images of a gas pump ticking higher and higher, bumper-to-bumper traffic, red signals and angry drivers. The distraught commuter wakes up, looks around, realizes she’s riding Metro, smiles and relaxes, knowing that she’s doing her part to save money and save the planet.

If only riding Metro were as pleasant as the rider finds it. (Especially since her train isn't moving!) Still, thanks for the encouragement, Metro.
