Metro released its October trackwork schedule, and pulled us—or me—for a loop when it announced that trackwork will be on all lines in the evenings, Sunday through Thursday too.

Is this because I was wowed over the speed of my evening commute Tuesday? I lined hopped all over the place, and post-midnight it was less than 20 minutes. Is this revenge? I take it all back! The commute was long and arduous. Better? Concertgoers, are we screwed or what? (Or what!)

So, without further delay, your weekend:

Red Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks, and make tunnel and aerial structure repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to closing (midnight) on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Orange Line -- Metrorail customers traveling between the Cheverly and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will replace crossties and conduct maintenance on the aerial structure outside the Stadium-Armory Metrorail station. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend from 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, to 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.

And your impending weeknight jaunts or late night commute home from the office: Add 30 minutes to your expected travel time, Thursday through Sunday, 9:30 p.m. through close (midnight, barring any major sports games or Bonofests). Cheers!

The Green and Yellow Lines are scheduled for the first week of October, the Blue and Red Lines are scheduled all month, and the Orange Line is schedule through October 15.

Some stations will close. Those stations are Waterfront-SEU and Archives-Navy Mem’l-Penn Quarter, plus no Green Line service at L’Enfant Plaza.

There is some good news: Metro will open at 6 a.m. on Sunday for the Army 10-Miler race. Some buses will be re-routed:

Metrobus operations at the Pentagon Transit Center will be relocated temporarily to Pentagon City until Arlington County reopens the impacted roadways, which is expected to happen at about 2 p.m. The Pentagon Metrorail station will remain open the entire time to accommodate race spectators and participants.

To help get everyone to the race, Metro will operate additional Blue Line trains between 6 a.m. and the start of the race (8 a.m.), and again from 11:15 a.m., to 12:40 p.m. Blue Line trains will depart every 7 1/2 minutes from the Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations. On a typical Sunday, Blue Line trains operate every 15 minutes from the terminal stations.
