Do you have a chair or an old lamp that isn’t worth much but you just can’t bare to part with? Is it taking up space in the attic? If you could give it new life would you? Sometimes just cleaning up a piece and finding a great color spray paint will breathe new life into an object for as little as $5.00.
There are thousands of spray paint options, from a hammered metal finish to a stone finish and every color in between. So how do you choose a color and a finish? To start decide where you might like to put it. If it’s a lamp it could go in a bedroom, den, the living room or the entry way. Look through the room and see if there is a color being used as an accent. You could bring that color out a bit more by painting the lamp that shade, or opt for a neutral as it will go with anything. Neutrals are whites, blacks, browns and grays.
Once you have decided on the color pick a finish or texture. Texture in a room adds variety. A Sandstone finish will give the item a rough appearance while a matte will be flat with no texture. The hammered metal is an inexpensive way give an item a unique look while appearing to be more expensive.
The next step is to take a trip to the local home improvement store. Home Depot, Walmart or Lowes will have spray paint for you. Don’t let the options overwhelm you as there will be many. It might be helpful to bring a color swatch with you if you want to match it to something in the room.
After you have bought the paint set yourself up in a well ventilated space, your garage is good, to paint the item. Safety goggles and old clothes are advisable. Carefully, open the can and paint away. In a few short minutes an old lamp will have new life.
