Dealing with loneliness during wedding season

Ah, the wedding season is here. So many happy couples sharing their vows while you wonder why you are still single. I remember being excited for my friends but sad for me every time I got a dreaded wedding invitation in the mail (plus guest). My future boyfriend was always named "guest" because my friends never knew who I would end up bringing if anyone at all.

Waiting until the last possible minute to respond, I would frantically hope that my special someone would sail into my life just in time to be my big date for the affair. Alas, most of the time I would return the card with just one attending and have to bear the event alone. The feeling of defeat always accompanied this ritual and it served as yet another blatant reminder of my single status.

If this sounds like you, here are some tips to thrive this wedding season and face it with power:

1. If you are not dating anyone serious, go alone. One of the best places to meet other singles is at weddings. There are always eligible bachelors/bachelorettes on hand and going solo can turn out to be a better choice for you.

2. Be positive. Everytime you wish happiness and really feel it for others, you are telling your subconscious mind that you want what they have. Being bitter and resentful can confuse your inner mind as it interprets your projection and thinks "love is bad" and will try to protect you from love.

3. Don't dress like a hooker. Sure you have a hot body, but you don't have to show it off as if you were going to a nightclub. Remember that this is a family event and your future husband's parents may be in attendance. You don't have to dress like a church lady, but make sure you wear what reflects the true you.

4. Don't drink too much. Open bar and champagne cocktails can be tempting especially when you are feeling lonely. You don't want to end up with the groom's womanizing friend the next morning who does not call you and leaves you feeling worse about yourself. Guilty hangovers are not fun.

5. Use the event to create some positive feelings and imagery about your special day. If you want to get married, imagine how the bride feels and pretend she is you (or men can relate to the groom). Your subconscious mind does not know the difference between you and others. The inner mind will automatically think that you are the one in love and that will create a higher love vibration for you to attract the right one. You may just find someone great right after the wedding or even at the event.

I know it is tough to be the last woman/man standing when all of your friends ride off in wedding bliss. I was there too. You may not get to choose your immediate circumstances but you have the choice of how you feel about yourself. The important thing to remember is that the universe is reading your "beingness" and attracting more of that into your life. So "be in love" and love will find you.
