The 4th of July: a day of backyard barbecues, pool parties, picnics, and fireworks galore!  Time to throw on some red, white and blue and head outdoors to celebrate 233 years of independence!

The perfect 4th of July ensemble is one that incorporates comfort, effortlessness, and patriotism.  An outfit for this occasion can be as simple as a pair of jean shorts and a nice tee (preferably in red or white to integrate some more of that star spangled banner), with a light sweater on hand for firework gazing in the evening.  If your closet is missing a pair of jean shorts, head to your local thrift store and peruse the jean section.  Now, finding a pair of second hand jeans that fit well and are the proper length is nearly impossible, however, finding a pair that solely fit in the waist should not be too tedious and can easily be converted into a pair of cut-offs or cuffed clam-diggers (knee-length shorts).

If the celebration you're attending is a bit more lavish, you might consider wearing a nice sundress, which can also be found at your local thrift shop.  Although the majority of the dresses available at Goodwill are floor-sweeping "teacher" dresses, these too can be spruced-up into a lovely and stylish sundress.  Simply find a dress that fits well in the bodice and does not have a ghastly print, and cut it to the length you'd like it to be.  If you're worried about fraying, just pick up a can of No Fray Spray or hem the dress if you have a knack for sewing.  Pair the dress with a stylish belt and sandals and you're ready to go!

Another option is a stylish romper.  Jumpsuits are all the rage and are probably the best choice if looking for a truly effortless ensemble.  Forever 21 has a few fantastic options, one of which is the Sweet Polka Dot Romper available for a mere $20.

Have a safe and fun 4th of July!
