Several months ago at the Ivy Plus Society mixer, a guy approached me and shook my hand.
"Hi, I'm John and I went to Harvard. Did you go to Stanford?"
"Nice to meet you, I'm Christine. I went to a Pac 10. But we did beat Stanford's football team!"
John then popped his blazer collar, took a sip of his Ketel One martini, and walked off.
A few minutes later another gent parked up:
"Hi, I'm Dave and I work for Google. Where do you work?"
"I'm Christine. I was laid-off from a Big Four and now I don't work."
"I'm sorry to hear that." Then Dave too walked away and parked up next to the Dartmouth girl across the room.
An unemployed, non-ivy leaguer. I was clearly the most eligible bachelorette in the house. The only number I got at that mixer was the tab for my Gin and Tonic.
But don't let these two incidents scare you off. The majority of folks at the Ivy Plus Society were extremely friendly and ready to mingle. It's the perfect way to network with San Francisco's ivy league graduates and young professionals over drinks and appetizers, make new friends, and dance the night away.
Join the Ivy Plus Society next Thursday, May 28th at Nob Hill's posh Le Club from 7 - 11 p.m. Tickets are $12 online, and $15 at the door. This is an event and a crowd you don't want to miss.
