The roller coaster ride that has been the 2009 season for the Baltimore Orioles continued this weekend, as the team rebounded from a terrible series with the Florida Marlins to take two of three against the rival Washington Nationals.

The series win moves the Orioles to 4-2 on the season against their NL rivals to the south after the team swept the Philadelphia Phillies on the road last weekend.

I know the team's up and down play can be extremely frustrating, but I really believe that their streakiness is a sign of improvement and good things to come. The team is at least somewhat flirting with the .500 mark and at least hanging on the fringes of the wild card race.

I don't think they have the pitching nor the consistent hitting to actually be a real factor in the wild card race this year, but I certainly see them making a run at it next year and then really getting things going in 2011.

If nothing else, as maddening as the O's can be at times, the team is also a lot of fun to follow.
