I think we've spent enough time harping on the poor officiating and the missed opportunities from the past two weeks. It's time to start looking forward to Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, which is now just a couple of days away.
With that in mind, it's the week leading up to the Ravens-Colts showdown. Yes, the franchise that picked up and left Baltimore in the middle of a snowy night, refusing to leave behind any of its storied history. I know how much it pained the city of Baltimore when the Colts left town, and how games against the franchise still stirs memories.
As someone who was born on the final day of 1983, I do not remember the Colts leaving town nor what it was like to have a professional football team to root for. It was engrained in me from my dad, however, that I spend my fall and winter Sundays rooting against the Colts and the Washington Redskins.
I eventually adopted the Buffalo Bills for a short period of time in the mid 90's, which is right before the Ravens arrived. I wanted to see them finally get over that Super Bowl hump and I thought it was cool how cold and snowy many of their home games were when December and January rolled around. I'm one of those fans who loves football because of the elements in which it is played, which is why I'm so against teams that play in domes. Anyway, I digress.
That said, I'm wondering how many of you still consider the Colts leaving town a big deal. How much does this game mean to you? I've been to the last two games the Colts have played at M&T Bank Stadium, and I have to say that emotions still seem pretty high. I'm not sure I've been to a football game filled with more excitement and emotion than the playoff game in 2007, which of course ended in devastating fashion.
Even though I never had the chance to love the Colts, I have an appreciation for the history of football, especially in Baltimore. I feel the pain of the older generation that loved that team and then had their hearts ripped out when they left town. I think Baltimore fans should support the Ravens, but I also don't expect memories of the Colts to die easy.
So I want to hear from you, the readers. Are the Colts still near and dear to your hearts? Do you think they are still the team's most bitter rival, or have the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins surpassed them?
