Monday night brought us one of the most lopsided games in recent history, when the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Cincinnati Reds 22-1 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.  Here are some of the statistical performances from this bizarre game:

  • Phillies 2B Chase Utley and CF Shane Victorino each had 4 RBI in the game.
  • Phillies RF Jayson Werth had 5 RBI.
  • Phillies starting pitcher Cole Hamels had two hits and two RBI.
  • Every Phillies starter (including pitcher) hit safely in the game.
  • Reds starter Johnny Cueto didn’t even make it out of the first inning – he recorded two outs and give up 9 runs.
  • Reds backup infielder Paul Janish pitched the last inning, giving up 6 runs – he now has an ERA of 49.50.
  • The Reds made only one error in the game – 21 of the 22 runs were earned by their pitching staff.

Baseball can be a strange game sometimes – its’ timeless nature can sometimes lead to outcomes like the one we saw Monday night.  Just as easily however, the fortunes of the competing teams can be completely reversed.
