Brewers acquire Chase Wright – 2/4: The Milwaukee Brewers acquired lefty Chase Wright from the New York Yankees for a minor league outfielder.  Wright is most famous for allowing four consecutive home runs to the Boston Red Sox – he will compete for a spot at the back of the Brewers rotation, or as a long reliever.

Rockies acquire Matt Murton – 2/4: The Colorado Rockies have acquired outfielder Matt Murton from the Oakland Athletics for a minor league infielder.  Murton has been dealt quite often in his young career, and will likely become a fourth outfielder for the Rockies.

Reds sign Jones, Ward – 2/5: The Cincinnati Reds have signed OF Jacque Jones and 1B Daryle Ward to minor league contracts.  Jones really fell off last year, hitting .147 for Detroit and Florida.  Ward was once a decent left-handed pinch hitter, but hit only .216 for the Cubs last season.  Both will compete for spots on the Cincinnati bench.

Diamondbacks sign Tom Gordon -2/6: The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed former Phillies closer Tom Gordon to a one-year deal worth $500K.  Gordon could earn up to $2.5M in performance incentives.  Flash appeared to be about done last season, so we’ll see if he’s able to contribute in the D’Backs bullpen.

Twins sign Luis Ayala - 2/6: The Minnesota Twins have signed former Nationals and Mets reliever Luis Ayala to a one-year, $1.3M deal.  Ayala has been a successful reliever in each season except for 2008, when he went 2-10 with a 5.71 ERA.  I think he'll rebound and be a nice steal for the Twins.

Rangers sign Donnelly, Jones – 2/7: The Texas Rangers have signed reliever Brendan Donnelly and outfielder Andruw Jones to minor league deals.  Donnelly was an excellent reliever for Anaheim, but has fallen victim to a series of injuries as of late.  Jones’s story is well known – he’s fallen far from his All-Star days in Atlanta.  He will compete for a backup job in the Rangers crowded outfield.

Rays sign Morgan Ensberg – 2/9: The Tampa Bay Rays agreed to a minor league contract with former All-Star 3B Morgan Ensberg.  Ensberg is a shell of the player he was in 2005, and will compete for a job backing up the corner infield spots.  He’s also agreed to play 2B and LF if he makes the Rays squad.

Athletics sign Edgar Gonzalez – 2/9: The A’s will bring Edgar Gonzalez to camp on a minor league deal.  The right-hander has spent his entire career with the Diamondbacks, sporting a 6.00 ERA in 2008.  He’s a good depth guy who’s capable of starting or relieving.
